Lawson White

Lawson is a music producer, performer, composer, and sound practitioner.

He has a MM from the Yale School of Music, a BM from the Eastman School of Music, and is an Auster Sound Method-certified sound practitioner. 

Lawson White is a producer, engineer, composer and multi-instrumentalist. He works out of The Parlor on Music Row in Nashville, TN. He plays various instruments, sings, programs drums and synths, and writes string arrangements for tracks he produces. He is a sound practitioner, completing his certification with Sara Auster in the Auster Sound Method in 2025. Still, his collaboration with Ann Sensing, creates designed experiences that explore the boundaries and overlap between sound therapy and music. He often plays percussion with the Nashville Symphony.

Lawson has worked with artists such as Turnstile, Twenty One Pilots, Lake Street Dive, Alison Krauss, Shania Twain, Vince Gil, Lorrie Morgan, Rag'n'Bone Man, Brittany Howard, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gil Scott-Heron, Jamie xx, Ben Folds, Blues Traveler, Santigold, Shakira, Chromeo, A-Trak, MNDR, Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Balún, My Brightest Diamond, Andrew Wyatt, The Band Perry, Tony Trischka, the Del McCoury Band, Sam Bush, and Bela Fleck.

Lawson has worked with classical composers and artists such as David Lang, Bryce Dessner (The National), John Zorn, Zeena Parkins (Björk), So Percussion, Kronos Quartet, yMusic, Matmos, Alarm Will Sound, International Contemporary Ensemble, ACME, NOW Ensemble, and the Metropolitan Opera.

His compositions and arrangements can be heard in films and on TV commercials, on many of the records of the artists with whom he collaborates.

As a percussionist, Lawson has been a member of So Percussion and Alarm Will Sound, performed regularly with the Nashville Symphony, Alabama Symphony, and the Rochester Philharmonic, as well as with Robert van Sice, Matmos, Zakir Hussain and many others. As a drummer he performed with Chromeo, Matmos, Shugo Tokumaru, Grand Ole Opry star Connie Smith, and his current project JKLoL with songwriters Kristin Andreassen, Jefferson Hamer and Lauren Balthrop. As a multi-instrumentalist, Lawson frequently plays pedal steel, guitar, bass, keys / synths, drums / percussion and sings on records he produces.

He has a BM in Music Performance and the Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music, and an MM in Music Performance from the Yale School of Music.

Lawson uses Pearl Drums / Adams Percussion, Vic Firth Sticks, Ableton Live, Eventide effects, and plugins by iZotope, KIT, oeksound, Safari Pedals, PSPaudioware and Baby Audio.
